A delightful bush setting with a fresh water pool in one of few places along the Gascoyne River which holds water long after the river ceases to flow. Beautiful outback landscape with gum trees along the river bank. Kangaroos do bounce by at dawn and dusk and the bird life is outstanding. Be sure to take plenty of fresh water with you.
Please note, camping is no longer available, however it is a great picnic spot to have lunch or even do some bird watching.
Location: Rocky Pool, Carnarvon, Mullewa Road
The track from the main road is maintained and suitable for two wheel drive use. Be sure to keep a watch for emu's, goats, kangaroos and road trains. Approach with caution.
If there has been no rain for some months, the water in the pool may not be suitable for swimming.
Directions: Approximately 40 kilometres east of Carnarvon along the Carnarvon Mullewa Road to Gascoyne Junction you will encounter a sign to turn left to Rocky Pool. The road from Carnarvon to the turn off is sealed except for a couple of kilometres at the junction of North West Coastal Highway.
